Thompson Education Consulting Group is approved by the Texas Education Agency as a Continuing Education Provider (CPE # 901960). As a result of his experience as a school teacher and administrator and his study of legal and ethical issues affecting educators and students, David is a sought-after professional development provider on these issues. He regularly speaks to groups of teachers and administrators in schools, and to large audiences of school administrators and attorneys at professional conferences hosted by such organizations as the Texas School Administrators’ Legal Digest and the Education Law Association.

Whether large group or small, in-person or via webinar, David has the ability to connect with his audiences; moreover, his experience as a practitioner-scholar enables him to make legal and ethical concepts applicable to the daily work of educators.

 

David is an expert in educational administration, education law, and an experienced expert witness. As such, he applies his practical experience as a teacher and school administrator, academic preparation, and research skills to cases that involve professional standards of care in schools and in the education of students. David provides his expertise to all facets of litigation, from inception (research, case evaluation, record review, assistance with discovery, site observations) through settlement and/or litigation (expert reports, deposition testimony, court testimony). 

David's recent experience as an expert has focused on issues of sexual and physical abuse of students/children and on the hiring, retention, and supervision of educators. Additional areas of expertise include student rights, bullying, special education, negligence, and educator employment.

The combination of David’s research and data analysis skills, writing expertise, and experience in both PK-12 and higher education make him an excellent evaluator of educational programs.  David’s experience as a program evaluator dates back to the mid-1990s, and includes his work as program evaluator for the following federally- or state-funded grants:

 

  • U.S. Department of Education Title II Quality Enhancement Grant: Partnership Grants for Improving Teacher Education (Our Lady of the Lake University and multiple San Antonio-area school districts). 

  • U.S. Department of Education Teacher Quality Enhancement Grant: Collaboration, Mentoring, & Technology Program for Recruitment (Our Lake of the Lake University and multiple San Antonio-area school districts)

  • Elementary Mathematics Teacher Enhancement & Science Teacher Enhancement Projects

  • Technology Integration in Education (TIE) Project

  • Technology Applications Readiness Grants for Empowering Texas (TARGET) (Five Star Education Solutions/Beeville Independent School District)
